UNDER 12 DEVT LEAGUE: STRAND CELTIC GREENS 3 BALLYMOTE CELTIC 1
Showgrounds
Strand Celtic Whites won their second match in a row on friday night last in the U 12 Development league against a strong, imposing Ballymote Celtic team.
On a cold night on the showgrounds astroturf, it took a while for the game to warm up but when it did, we were treated to a great game of end to end football.
Strand battled hard to get a foothold in the game after Ballymote started the stronger. However, on 20 minutes we opened the scoring with a goal from Shane McCallion. For the rest of the half we began to impose ourselves a little better and added a second from Cian Bree-Galvin about five minutes from half time.
Our back four of Daniel Kilgallon,Captain Liam Fitzgerald,Jack Gilligan and Mark Keegan and additions Mickey Reddin and Liam Henehan, backed up by Goalkeeper Jack Burke were having a storming first half and we reached the break two goals up.
Ballymote came at us hard in the second half but we were beginning to get on top and added a third through Killian Egan ten minutes into the second half. That should have been that, but back they came and scored to set up a nervous finish. There were chances a plenty at both ends towards the finish but we held out for a great win.
Credit must go to a great team performance. Midfielders Shay Doherty,Shane McCallion, Daragh Flynn, Ronan Walsh and also Stephen O`Connell and Dion Higgins worked their socks off for the team while up front Cian Bree-Galvin, Corban Kenny, Killian Egan and David Gaynor all played exceptionally well.
A good team performance and well done to the squad and managers Gerry Doherty, Paul Higgins and Peter Galvin. |
