UEFA LADIES QUALIFIER: REPUBLIC OF IRELAND 2 TURKEY 1
The Republic of Ireland women’s under 17 side kicked off their UEFA Championship, first qualifying phase with a hard earned victory over Turkey. Bronagh KErins played the full ninety minutes in the game.
Goals from Maria Delahunty and Dora Gorman ensures that Noel King’s side are on course to advance to the elite qualifying phase.
Noel King’s side were 1-0 down four minutes after the half-time break but the Irish regrouped and defeated a resilient Turkish side who are hosting the first qualifying phase.
Waterford’s Maria Delahunty grabbed the equaliser for the Irish after 51 minutes before Salthill Devon’s Dora Gorman struck after 62 minutes to give Noel King’s side victory over their Turkish hosts.
In the groups other game, the Netherlands defeated the Faroe Islands 8-0 to leave them in pole position to claim one of the two places available in the elite qualifying phase.
The Irish will now face the Faroe Islands tomorrow (Monday) knowing that a victory will all but ensure their place in the elite qualifying phase next year.
