COACHING WEEKEND A GREAT SUCCESS
By @ 11:16 PM :: 87 Views :: Club News, Coaching News

Last weekend was a red letter day for all coaches within our club as we had a weekend coach education seminar with Austin Speight, Head of Coerver UK & I Coaching. The weekend was a great success and was well supported by all our coaches.

The weekend started on Friday night when Ausitn took our one of our under 12 development squads through their paces with the majority of coaches in attendance. This was well attended and the session was impressive in the nature of the drills and the pace of the session. This was followed by a briefing at the surf club. The club are very grateful to the surf club for the use of their meeting room on Friday night.

Saturday was a busy day as another of our under 12 development squad, our under 12 premier squad, our colts section, our nippers academy and soccer sisters section were all put through their paces. It was quite a sight as Austin took over one hundred and thirty kids for the warm up. Austin attended the Sligo rovers game against cobh ramblers on Saturday night.
Sunday moved up in age groups as our under 14 and under 16 sides went through their paces.

The weekend was ended with our under 12 and some of our under 14 girls in attendance.
Austin has a chequered CV including having worked with the Blackburn Rovers youth academy for over eight years. In addition he is currently working with the Irish Football Association and has recently been contracted by our friends from Galway, Salthill Devon.

The Coerver method was created by former Chelsea star, Charlie Cooke, in the US. It has subsequently been adopted by the French FA at their academies and more recently by the Arsenal youth system. Its distinguishing feature is the emphasis on using the ball at all time and on skill development in the early stages of player development.

The club are very grateful to Austin Speight for his work with us over the weekend. Also sincere thanks to our coaches who gave up their time for the development of their skills. In addition thanks to our own coaching co-coordinator, Maurice Monaghan, who pulled things together over the weekend. The presentations and details of the weekends events are on our club website www.strandceltic.com in the coaching section. It is hoped to get copies fo some of the drills in the coming weeks.
