BUMPER COACHING WEEKEND AT CLUB

As part of the clubs plan for coaching development the club intends to work with Coerver coaching over the coming months to help our coaches and their players. Austin Speight, Head of Coerver UK & Ireland, will now travel to Strandhill on the weekend of September 26th/27th and 28th to work with the Strand Celtic coaches from all of our teams.

Austin has a chequered CV including having worked with the Blackburn Rovers youth academy for over eight years. In addition he is currently working with the Irish Football Association and has recently been contracted by our friends from Galway, Salthill Devon.

The Coerver method was created by former Chelsea star, Charlie Cooke, in the US. It has subsequently been adopted by the French FA at their academies and more recently by the Arsenal youth system. Its distinguishing feature is the emphasis on using the ball at all time and on skill development in the early stages of player development.

We would ask all our coaches to keep these dates free in their diaries to maximise the learning from the weekend. It is intended that Austin will take sessions with each of the sections in our club while working with the coaches in parallel.

On next Friday night there will be a briefing and workshop session for all coaches at 7pm followed by an on pitch session at 8:30 on the pitch to introduce the Coerver method. The venue for the workshop will be confirmed to all coaches by text later in the week.

A schedule is also being organised for Saturday and Sunday in which each coach and their team will have an opportunity to work with Austin. This is a great opportunity for our coaches and given the investment by the club it is hoped that all coaches will commit on next weekend.

Further details can be had from club coaching co-ordinator, Maurice Monaghan, on 087 633 0670.
