With one win already under our belts the girls did not take long to find their feet and showed their superior  strength and skill from early on.An early score from Lauren McGee was a portent of things to come as she eventually netted five in a 9-1 victory which also saw scores from Emma Hansberry,Edel Sheerin,Niamh Kelly and a spectular long range strike from Aisling Brenan.

STRAND CELTIC  4  BALLYMOTE  0
Kevinsfort
Sat.14th June
Injuries and absences left Strand with an understrength bare eleven to face what was reckoned to be their main rivals in the league. The girls started well and despite withstanding some early pressure from a strong Ballymote side Strand slowly began to impose themeslves on the game. Some good play down the right wing from Rachel Norman,Lauren McGee and Emma Hansberry ended with a stinging low cross into the box from Emma which deflected off a defender into the Ballymote net to give Strand a deserved lead.Further pressure and fine play from Emma Hansberry saw a long ball over the head of the Ballymote centre half well received by Lauren McGee who fired well past the Ballymote keeper to send Strand into half time two up.On resumption Ballymote tried hard to turn things around but the Strand defence of Leah Kerrigan,Ashling Gilgan, Karen Frahill and captain Claire Horan were well able for anything that came their way and made sure that keeper Shaina McGovern was not threatened.Good midfield play from Emma Hansberry,Edel Sheerin and Muireann Morrisey kept Strand well on top and and good foraging in the box from Lauren Mcgee saw her find Laura Gaynor who scored from close in.Laura Gaynor doubled her tally and made it four for the home team when she got on the end of another stinging cross from Emma Hansberry and rammed the ball into the Ballymote net.Strand continued to press with good play from Lauren McGee and Rachel Norman up front and ran out deserving of their 4-0 win and delighted with the points.
