GIRLS UNDER 12 LEAGUE: STRAND CELTIC   4    GURTEEN  0
Kevinsfort

After going down to Innisfree Ballygalwey two days ago Strand Celtic Under 12 girls had a superb 4 - 0 win over Gurteen on a beautiful sunny afternoon in Kevinsfort .  This win means that  the girls are still on course to finish in the top 4.

Strand Celtic started off very strong and found themselves well on top within 15 minutes of the start.  After a goal mouth scramble Carla Kivlehan opened the scoring with a fine goal from 5 yards.  Emma Monaghan at centre forward and Nicole O'Boyle, Katie Monaghan and Beibhinn Morrissey were keeping the pressure on the Gurteen defence.

Claire Hanney who was superb attacking on the wing was causing numerous problems for the Gurteen defence and it didn't take long for her to get her first score.   She picked the ball up at the half way line and ran at pace taking on players before sloting past the goal keeper.  It didn't take long before Claire got her second after several missed chances hitting the upright and the cross bar.

With all this attacking the Strand defence were only called into action every so often but when needed they performed superbly.  Cara Osborne in goals had little to do but came off her line well to clear up several times.  Emma Barry was solid as ever a right back and Siubheann Crowne was excellent at right back, looking up and picking out her passes perfectly.  Ellie McCole & Orla Gilligan at the centre of the defence for possibly for the first time showed how versatile they are and nothing got past them.

Several changes were made to the team at half time, Katie Osborne and Maeve Keanelly replacing Carla Kivlehan and Emma Monaghan up front and Caoimhe Borthwick replacing Emma Barry at right back.  Katie Monaghan moved out to the wing from the centre and started running at the defence from the right side.  After several brillant runs Katie was rewarded with a great goal after weaving her way around several players before finding the back of the net.

Ellie McCole who swopped places with Nicole O'Boyle teamed up at midfield with Ellen Monaghan who came on to replace Beibhinn Morrissey.  Both worked well together with Ellie attacking and Ellen holding at the centre.  Ciara Redmond came on for Siubheann Crowne and Amber Mooney came on for Orla Gilligan.  Ciara attacked up the left wing from full back and proved she can play at either left full back or left side of midfield.  Amber and Caoimhe was as reliable as ever in the defence.

Strand's next game against Arrow Harps on Tues evening 3rd June will be a very important game, they need to win this game to put them in a position for the playoffs.

Team:  Cara Osborne, Siubheann Crowne, Ellie McCole, Orla Gilligan, Emma Barry, Beibhinn Morrissey, Katie Monaghan, Nicole O'Boyle, Claire Hanney, Carla KIvlehan and Emma Monaghan.  Subs: Katie Osborne (Emma Monaghan), Maeve Keanelly (Carla Kivlehan), Caoimhe Borthwick (Emma Barry), Ellen Monaghan (Beibhinn Morrissey), Amber Mooney (Orla Gilligan) and Ciara Redmond (Siubheann Crowne)
