UNDER 14 TEAM ON THE DOUBLE
Both our under 14 teams were in action in Strandhill on Thursday evening last.
Our Green team upset the formbook when they took all three points against group two table toppers Carrick Town. Our lads raced into a two goal lead courtesy of a Stephen Henry and Dylan Doherty goal. They were pegged back by a resolute Carrick Town team who then missed a penalty. This opened the door for our boys who saw Stephen Henry on his debut for the club smash home a winner. Well done to team manager Paddy Norman and his assistant manager, Ray Simon, on a winning start in their first game.
Our white team bounced back well from last years defeat to Merville and defeated a skillful Ballygawley United side by two goals to one. Ballygawley took an early lead and despite dominating possession our boys just could not break Ballygawleys defence down. When chances did come they went begging and they turned over a goal down. In the second half it was more of the same although Ballygawley became more danegours on the counter attack and only some alert goalkeeping by Jack Keegan and centre back cover from Cian BRee and James Hampson kept the lead to a minimum. Strnad got a foothold late on and the breakthrough came when Peter Patton broke clear on the right and hit a perfect delivery which was met by the incoming Ronan Walsh for a deserved equalizer. Minutes later it was two one as another good cross from Cian McGovern after a good interchange between James Hampson and Mark McCallion saw Liam Mcelhinney fire home at the back post for victory.
