UNDER 12 PERFORM WELL IN CASTLEBAR INVITATIONAL BLITZ

Our Under 12 seven a side team travelled to the Castlebar invitational tournament on Saturday last.

The squad who travelled was Jack Burke, Jack Gilligan, Fionn Morrisey, Shane McCallion, Aaron O Boyle, Cono rBurke, James Coggins, Donagh Crowne and Fiachra Cogan. The lads acquitted themselves well only going out to eventual winners, Ballina town, on penalties after a tight encounter.

The lads opened up with a tough game against Derry City. Despite this they dominated the first half with two good efforts from Fiachra Cogan and Shane McCallion going close. Derry though showed their class when a great strike from twenty yards beat Jack Byuke with five minutes to go and a late second made it two nil. In the second game our under 12 squad dominated possession but only won through a solitary Conor Burke goal. Despite creating lots of chances they just could nto get that vital second goal to kill off the game.

The third group game was against the local team, Castlebar Celtic. Our lads shoWed their true form as they powered to a six nil victory with two particularly sulime goals from James Coggins and Shane McCallion.

This brought us through to a quarter final encounter with Ballina Town. Despite having lots of possession our lads could not break through a resolute defence and Ballina were always dangerous on the counter attack. With no breakthrough by both sides and a five minute golden goal period it was to penalties. Unfortunately for our lads it was not to be and two of the five penalties struck the post to send Ballina through.

Overall there was some really good displays and the lads played an excellent brand of football throughout the tournament.
